Recycling Joyseat a.k.a. Sustainable Production through Local Manufacturing

Recycling Joyseat a.k.a. Sustainable Production through Local Manufacturing

In today's globalized economy, manufacturing often shifts to distant countries in pursuit of cost reduction. Unfortunately, this often results in a decrease in product quality. However, at Posedla, we adhere to the philosophy of local manufacturing and maintaining the highest standards for our products. Did you know that Joyseat saddles can be recycled? What else are we doing to ensure our production is sustainable?

Building Our Recycling Program

None of us can avoid a fall while cycling at some point. If your Joyseat saddle has suffered damage, don't worry – we have a solution. We are planning to launch a recycling program that will breathe new life into damaged Joyseat saddles. We are developing this program in collaboration with the German company BASF, which currently supplies us with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). This material is used to make the top layers of our saddles. TPU is particularly suitable for 3D printing due to its unique properties such as high elasticity, durability, resilience, and reusability.

The recyclability of this material is a revolution in 3D printing. Damaged or worn-out TPU products can be processed using special technology and transformed into a substrate. This substrate is then used to produce additional plastic filaments or injection-molded parts. What does this mean for you? If you've damaged your Joyseat or want to refresh its appearance after years of use, you can have the padding layer reprinted for a fee. And you won't have to go through the ordering process again. Send us your Joyseat, and we will take care of the eco-friendly recycling process. Subsequently, we will reprint the top layer for you.

Carbon Recycling: A Challenge for the Future

At Posedla, we strive to find ways to minimize waste production and use resources as efficiently as possible. That's why we avoid using disposable plastic packaging for our products. Our current challenge is carbon recycling. Reusing carbon fibers is much more difficult compared to processing TPU, especially in the form of resin saturated prepreg, which we use.

Currently, cured carbon fiber can only be grinded and added to plastic filaments or used to create new products (such as jewelry or accessories). We are currently collaborating with a local manufacturer to develop carbon wall clocks made from unused carbon scraps from our production. This issue is being actively researched globally and new methods for carbon recycling are expected to emerge in the near future.

Nevertheless, we can proudly say that thanks to our workers’ meticulous handwork, we produce minimal waste. We can utilize almost all of the material from resin saturated prepreg and, in doing so, minimize our environmental impact. We use carbon fiber manufactured in Italy, avoiding long supply chains.

Local manufacturing contributes to environmental protection

Bringing Jobs to the Lusatian Mountains Region

Why did we choose not to follow the trend of shifting work to the Far East? Firstly, manufacturing in the Czech Republic allows us to maintain a high level of product quality. With our team of experts, we can carefully oversee every step of the production process and ensure that each product meets strict standards. Customers also have the assurance that the product is created in a highly controlled environment with clear legislative and hygiene guidelines.

Local manufacturing also contributes to environmental protection. By having short supply chains, we reduce our ecological footprint by minimizing transportation costs. We are committed to continuing our efforts to reduce waste and contribute to a sustainable future.

Lastly, we want to support the local economy and revive the Northern Bohemian region where we come from. We believe in the power of the community and the benefits of local employment. We take pride in our products coming from the Czech Republic, and we believe that manufacturing here is still viable and essential. Join our efforts by supporting Posedla products made with love and care!
